Bengali hilsa fish curry recipe
Here's a recipe for Bengali-style fish curry that you can make at home:
Ingredients:
- 4-5 pieces of fish (Hilsa or Rohu)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Mustard oil (as required)
- Water
Instructions:
- Clean and wash the fish pieces. Marinate them with 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder and salt for 10-15 minutes.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces until golden brown on both sides. Take them out of the pan and keep aside.
- In the same pan, add some more mustard oil if required, and sauté the onions till they turn translucent.
- Add the ginger and garlic paste, green chilies, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and remaining turmeric powder. Fry for a minute.
- Add water to the pan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let the curry simmer for a few minutes.
- Add the fried fish pieces to the curry, cover the pan and let it cook on low heat for 5-6 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Your Bengali-style fish curry is ready to serve. Enjoy it with steamed rice!
