Here's a recipe for Bengali-style fish curry that you can make at home:


Ingredients:


  1. 4-5 pieces of fish (Hilsa or Rohu)
  2. 2 onions, finely chopped
  3. 1 tsp ginger paste
  4. 1 tsp garlic paste
  5. 2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
  6. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  7. 1 tsp cumin powder
  8. 1 tsp coriander powder
  9. 1 tsp red chili powder
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Mustard oil (as required)
  12. Water


Instructions:


  1. Clean and wash the fish pieces. Marinate them with 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder and salt for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces until golden brown on both sides. Take them out of the pan and keep aside.
  3. In the same pan, add some more mustard oil if required, and sauté the onions till they turn translucent.
  4. Add the ginger and garlic paste, green chilies, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and remaining turmeric powder. Fry for a minute.
  5. Add water to the pan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let the curry simmer for a few minutes.
  6. Add the fried fish pieces to the curry, cover the pan and let it cook on low heat for 5-6 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.


Your Bengali-style fish curry is ready to serve. Enjoy it with steamed rice!
